Hey friends,

Hard to believe, but with the passing of Labor Day, we are officially looking towards the Fall season.  So it goes, the air will get cooler in the mornings and the next thing you know you will be at your company holiday party wondering what happened in the last four months of the year.

This means that it’s already time to start planning for 2019.  In the HR world that includes open enrollment, performance reviews, merit increases, bonus eligibility and budgeting forecasts for next year.  There’s hardly a moment to breathe, let alone think about aligning people strategy with your operational business objectives.  Trust us, we’ve been on that hamster wheel with you.

Keeping this in mind, we have already begun strategy planning with our clients because we know that in about 30-days, time is going to get very limited. Here are a few questions we ask our clients during planning, hopefully, they will help you frame your strategy session as well.

Ask yourself and your team:

+  Do we have an active and effective recruiting talent strategy or are we just posting on job boards?

+  Are we interviewing and hiring for culture fit or relying on skills determination and gut feel?

+  Have we effectively articulated our culture and priorities?  Do we have a plan to actively communicate those concepts and priorities?

+  Have we taken an empathetic view of our employee experience to ensure we are living by our values?

The answers to these questions should not be in the realm of “let’s do what we’ve always done.” At least not if you want to make progress with culture and people services.

We are challenging our clients to shift resources from traditional black holes like “job board advertising” and “system upgrades”, that have little to no productive value year over year, to creative “out of the box” referral campaigns, culture-based hiring tools, management development, and communication initiatives.

If you’d like to hear more, let’s chat.  That holiday party will be here before you know it.
